2020 IAAP ELECTIONS

DIVISION 17

Call for Nominations for Division President-Elect

In 2020, IAAP members in good standing of Division 17 (i.e., 2020 membership dues paid) will be invited to elect a new Division President-Elect who will assume the presidency of Division 17 at the end of the International Congress of Applied Psychology (ICAP) to be held in Beijing on July 24-29, 2022.

The election will take place between July 10 and August 9, 2020 if the call for nominations for Division President-Elect yields one eligible nomination or more by June 30. If it does not, then, a second call for nominations for Division President-Elect will be launched, and the election will take place between September 3 and October 1, 2020. In either case, the election will be conducted through online voting, using software designed to ensure accurate, secure, closed voting.

The IAAP member who is elected President-Elect of Division 17 will serve as Division President-Elect until the 2022 ICAP and then proceeds to serve as Division President for four years (2022-2026) and Division Past President for two years (2026-2028).

Call for Nominations

As Chair of the Elections Committee for Division 17, I have the pleasure of asking members of Division 17 to submit names of candidates for the office of President-Elect of Division 17 in keeping with the Rules of Procedure for the Elections of IAAP Division Presidents-Elect and Other Officers (as adopted by the Board of Directors of IAAP on July 26, 2016).

The deadline to submit nominations for the position of Division President-Elect is the 30th of June 2020 at 11:59 PM (New York City time).

Eligibility

To be eligible for nomination for Division President-Elect, one must be a member of IAAP who has been in good standing with IAAP for the last two years or more (i.e., 2019 and 2020 membership dues paid). Furthermore, one must have been a member of the Division in which they run for President-Elect for the last two years (i.e., during the year preceding the election and the year during which the election takes place).

Please note that Division members in good standing with IAAP cannot be nominated for President-Elect of a Division in which they are nationals or residents of the same country as the Division President. The current President of Division 17 is from Australia.

Nomination Procedure

As stipulated in the Rules of Procedure for the Elections of IAAP Division Presidents-Elect and Other Officers (2016), candidates for Division President-Elect must be nominated by a member of the division in good standing with IAAP for the last two years or more (i.e., 2019 and 2020 membership dues paid). In addition, each nomination must be endorsed by another member of the division in good standing with IAAP (i.e., 2020 membership dues paid).

Division members who nominate a candidate for Division President-Elect are required to submit all the following documents in support of the nomination:

  1. A letter of nomination. The letter should provide: (i) the name and e-mail address of the nominator; (ii) the name and e-mail address of the nominee; (iii) the name of the position for which the candidate is being nominated: and (iv) a description of the qualifications and merits of the nominee – the letter should be addressed to the Chair of the Division Elections Committee and signed by the nominator.
  2. A letter of endorsement. The letter should include: (i) the name and e-mail address of the endorser; (ii) the name of the nominee; (iii) the name of the position for which the candidate is being nominated: and (iv) a statement confirming the endorsement of the nomination – the letter should be addressed to the Chair of the Division Elections Committee and signed by the endorser.
  3. A letter from the nominee indicating that he/she consents to be nominated for Division President-Elect and that he/she is committed, if elected, to serve for the full term of office as Division President-Elect (from 2020 until 2022 in the present instance), plus the terms of office as President (four years) and Past President (two years) – the letter should be addressed to the Chair of the Division Elections Committee and signed by the nominee.
  4. A short biography of the candidate (including educational background, present and former positions, research and professional activities, organization membership and involvement, and international congress participation) (no more than one page);
  5. A brief statement from the candidate describing what he/she wishes to achieve as Division President (no more than 800 words).

The nominations and all supporting documents must be submitted by e-mail directly to the Secretary of the Division Elections Committee (dlprescottphd@gmail.com) with c.c. to the Chair of the Division Elections Committee (james.bray@utsa.edu) before 11:59 PM (New York City time) on the 30th of June 2020.

Please remember that only Division members in good standing with IAAP (i.e., those who have paid their 2020 membership dues) can nominate candidates for Division President-Elect, and only Division members who have been in good standing with IAAP for the last two years or more (i.e., those who have paid their 2019 and 2020 membership dues) can be nominated for Division President-Elect. A list of all division members can be found here.

As stipulated in Paragraph 24 of the Rules of Procedure for the Elections of IAAP Division Presidents-Elect and Other Officers (2016), the Hare Voting System – more commonly referred to as Instant-Runoff Voting – will be as the method of voting if there are more than two nominations for the position of Division President-Elect.

In accordance with the Rules of Procedure for the Elections of IAAP Division Presidents-Elect and Other Officers (2016), if no eligible nominee has been nominated by the end of the second nominating period, one will be appointed by the IAAP Executive Committee following a recommendation from the Elections Committee of IAAP as soon as a suitable candidate for the position of Division President-Elect has been identified.
